WordPress, Medium, or Ghost?

There is a lot of options for blogging these days, and after some time, I've decided to change the platform I use to share the content I create.

WordPress.com

When I started my blog some years ago, I decided to use a WordPress.com premium account, the idea was to share content about technology and other stuff, no efforts, no big deals. Using an easy-to-use tool with a nice look. But after a while, I started facing some problems with trivial tasks, such as adding themes or plugins. The main reason was the .com comes with some restrictions about what you can do in the starter plan, what was expected, but the option for having all features by self-hosting and self-managing a WordPress.org instance was out-of-the-table. I could just update my account in Worpress.com to get able to all the changes I would like, but it was more expensive, and before I put more money into it, I decided to try some alternatives.

Medium.com

Medium.com is a great tool, but I think they don't do a good job when informing that in order the have a "Blog" page, you should generate a "publication" and set up the publication structure. I created the first posts, and I felt a little bit limited about what you can do in the post itself, but it just works, nice! Then I started to see what people were saying about blogging using Medium, and what I saw was some complaints about the content being restricted to the Medium platform, and about the SEO being generated for Medium.com instead of for you or your business when the post is reached out through Google searches. It's a nice tool, but I didn't like that, which made me try the last option I had.

Ghost.org

Pretty similar to WordPress.com, Ghost.org offers a ready-to-use host service for blogging, but it's cheaper (compared with the version that allows plugins installation), comes with more features, and has a better look. It was a surprise to see who easy it was to start using it, and how nice it looks even with the default theme.

Decision

Since I was looking for a simple tool for blogging, I decided to try Ghost.org, and it looks like I have found my perfect blogging system.
